Halloween: More Tricks than Treats

Ryder in octopus costumeWe’ve had a number of enthusiastic inquiries into Ryder’s first Halloween experience. We weren’t too surprised by the interest, because as his doting parents, we know that he’s real easy on the eyes. Technically, he’s was around for another Halloween, but last year’s sadly unrealized plan consisted of us swaddling him in a white blanket, putting a red pillow on top of him, wrapping the whole thing in a black belt and calling him “Baby Sushi.” And even that didn’t happen. AquaBabies

Caitlin, Ryder and I have been attending a class called “AquaBabies” recently at a nearby gym/holistic-life-improvement establishment. With a cryptic class name like that, you’re probably scratching your head, wondering: what could the class possibly be about? Well, gentle reader, simply break the class name into its two component parts, and you’ll immediately notice that it turns into “Aqua” (Water) and “Babies” (Babies). It’s sort of a swimming class for babies, although calling it a swimming class would be putting it too strongly. A more accurate name would be: “Help Your Baby Develop a Mild Comfort Level in the Water.” But that was obviously not the catchiest of names. In the class, parents are instructed to (and happily comply) hold their child in the water with them.

Shake Your Maraca

Ryder and I took our first music class together last week. We signed up based on the fact that you had to purchase a maraca to be in the class. “A maraca” I thought, “Awesome.” In the past, I had avoided signing us up for other promising classes based on their respective equipment lists – most notably, “Self-Defense for Infants” and its requisite “baby switchblade.” Continue reading
