Seriously? Soup!?!

Don't Eat This While Driving

Don't Eat This While Driving

I was lurking around online recently and saw a Chicago Tribune headline about the 10 worst things to eat in your car. I was intrigued, so I checked out the article. Iwas particularly struck by #3 in the slideshow: SOUP. The particular picture they’ve chosen to represent soup is priceless, but it made me wonder – who eats soup in their car? Not only it is a bowl of near-boiling liquid, but it’s typically consumed using a spoon, meaning that you’re looking at zero hands on the wheel while ingesting scalding liquid.

I don’t know whether these were offered in terms of most-dangerous to least-dangerous items, or in no particular order at all, but I was really struck by the gap between some of these items. Soda also happens to be on the list, which I would argue would diminish the credibility of the list overall. Come on – soda vs. soup?

For your benefit, gentle reader, here’s the whole list:

  • Coffee
  • Hot Soup
  • Tacos
  • Chili dogs
  • Hamburgers
  • Barbecued Food
  • Fried Chicken
  • Jelly or Cream-filled donuts
  • Soda
  • Chocolate

Ha. LOL. Chuckle.

LOL.

LOL.

People laugh at their own jokes. I know this because I do and I’ve seen others do it too.  It’s cool, it’s no big thing unless maybe you have a very hearty laugh that drowns out the chuckles of your audience. What I do find uncool is the excessive use of LOL and all its acronym friends when one is writing. I am not talking about finding something that someone else writes as funny, but something that you write and then self-LOL. Often, when I have seen it, the stuff isn’t even that funny. It’s more like a statement, for example: “I am starting to like going to the grocery store. I must be getting old. LOL.” What? That’s not funny. It’s not funny at all. And adding LOL to the end doesn’t make me think it’s funny.

It’s time some people get with the program. LOL.
